“If you are going through hell, keep going.” A quote from the great Winston Churchill. How awesome and true is that?
But what do many of us do when all hope seems lost? We stagger around for help. We look for the easy way out. We try to cut our losses or just plain give up. In the middle of chaos though, the answer is usually pretty simple. Just keep going. Don’t stop and wait for help or a hand out, it might come tomorrow, it might never come. Control the one thing you can, yourself. And keep going. One foot after another.
Churchill has many quotes that are gems:
“Never, never, never give up.”
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference,”
ATTITUDE! NEVER GIVE UP! We overcome adversity when we look it in the face, and even when we have no answers, we keep moving as we vow to never give up. Never forget, if you are going through hell, keep going!
To do that, you must have something to fight for. During WWII when Churchill uttered many of his best exhortations, the literal life of the country was at stake. The Nazis were hammering on the gates. Churchill was able to motivate his countrymen because they all knew what was at stake, the very life of a nation. He used that to his advantage. He made life and death the fuel to continue struggling and ultimately be victorious.
“I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.” He spoke to a nation on the brink of disaster.
When you are down, and you don’t know if you can keep going through hell, you must find something in your life worth dying and living for. Your wife, your kids, a dream, someone counting on you. Whatever it is, picture your motivation at the gates of hell and imagine that you are the only thing between it and destruction. What would you do? How hard would you fight?
Take some time today and write down the things in your life that you’d do anything for. Write it clearly with the reason why they are so important. Then the next time you are in hell and the devil is licking at your heals, just keep going. Never surrender. This attitude will save your life. Actually, it’s the basis for my Ladder UPP program, and why it saves lives. Clearly identify the things in your life you’d sacrifice everything for, make a plan, find people to hold you accountable to the plan’s execution, then move forward no matter what. These steps change lives, even if you are facing the hounds of hell.
Now, here is a song that will get your heart pumping. A friend of mine, Craig White, engineered this record (the same engineer who helped produce my CD, Fly with Angels), and one listen will be sure to keep ‘ole Winston in your head! If you are going through hell, keep on going!
