Nikon F3Hp, Old cars and Wanderlust

Oh the joys of wanderlust. When I lived in Northern California I loved to wander around the coast north of San Francisco. My trusty camera, a Nikon F3HP with its 50mm 1.4 lens (occasionally a 24mm 2.8 too) was always at my side.

These two photos of abandoned automobiles are great examples of how the meeting of pristine nature with junk can provoke some incredibly lasting impressions.

The cross car reminds me how faith can be found in anything, and how life’s journey is ultimately one of meaning and purpose, and our struggle to find it.

The old Chevrolet was once someone’s pride and joy. Now it is an abandoned hunk of rusting metal. Flashy things are temporal, but nature remains. I think this is why I love spending so much time in the outdoors. It endures, full of life, even as it undergoes its own cycles of life and death. Ultimately, nature wins.

Get yourself a trusty camera, or hell, a smartphone if you must! :), and allow yourself some time to wander. You will always find something that was worth the journey.
