A US Marine, Sgt. Merlin German, died April 11th, 2008. Sgt. German was burned over 95 percent of his body after a bomb blew up his humvee February 21, 2005 enroute to Ramadi, Iraq, he survived and after 17 months of treatment against all odds was able to move home. In spite of his horrific wounds, he never lost his hope and courage. Before his death due to complications from another surgery, he was able to establish Merlin’s Miracles, a charity to assist burned children and their families. Merlin never let his wounds kill his spirit, he never lost his hope. He was an inspiration to everyone that knew him.

While in Iraq Sgt. German participated in over 150 successful missions and at Machinegunner’s school he graduated second although he was one of the youngest Marines in attendance. His dream had been to become a Marine since he was 11 years old and on September 8, 2003, at only 17, he enlisted and made that dream happen.

After his death, the Wounded Warrior Regiment call-in help center in Marine Corps Base Quantico was renamed after Merlin on December 4, 2008.
